mello exhibition: my work

I’ve really enjoyed the exhibition; the work was both varied and imaginative. Particular pieces that stood out were Jacob Cordingli’s paintings. Their blend of colour and expression of the human form, which is fluidic and very inspiring, were vibrant and eye-catching. Kayleigh Devlin’s ‘Totem’ also had my attention. Upon discovery it seemed like it was too distant from the rest of the exhibition, but it actually seemed to spring out of this environment in a wonderful and narrative fashion. Wood, stone and metal entwined in a resolute and impressive style. Added to this the lighting, with its eerie blue glow made it a very formidable sculpture to behold.

This exhibition is a great advertisement for the course here in Liverpool! If I had to pick only a few pieces then I would pick The Utopias by Kayleigh Devlin and Mixed Media by Katie Green.  Kayleigh’s piece was three pictures, the left was a woman, the centre one was an explosion and the right was grass, all within the frame of a cityscape. I really liked them, because to me it seemed like three different types of utopia. One with people, one with nothing and one with nature at its heart.  I felt this said a lot, my personal view of utopia would be nature overtaking the city. Katie’s Mixed Media pieces were framed textiles. Both artists had a really textural feel to their work. Katie’s made me remember my grandparents. It was a warm and inviting series of pieces.
